A seven-year-old boy was drowned after his kidnappers threw him in Yamuna as they found no place to hide him to seek ransom from the boy’s father. The boy’s body has been recovered from the river and the police have arrested two abductors.

Less than a week ago, Delhi had reported another case of kidnap where a juvenile was arrested for abducting his former employer’s son. According to the data from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) Delhi recorded the most number of abduction cases in the country in 2015 with 21 such cases every day or 37 cases per 100,000 population. With the increased number of such cases, Delhi is fast gaining the unenviable tagline of being the ‘abduction capital’ of India.

The boy, Andaz, was kidnapped while playing outside his home on February 20. The kidnappers later called his father demanding a ransom of Rs 2.5 lakh.

The police arrested two men Vikas and Arya, both residents of Karawal Nagar in north east Delhi, on Saturday morning.

The Indian Express reported that according the police the abductors threw the boy into the river as they were unable to find a place in Karawal Nagar to hide him. A report in the Hindustan Times said the kidnappers did so when they feared that he would raise an alarm.

“They confessed that the child was crying incessantly. They managed to get the child to sleep but the following morning they took him to the Old Yamuna Bridge in ISBT promising to show him fish in the river. At the bridge, they pushed the child into the river and returned home,” an officer told The Hindustan Times.
