The Delhi government has announced that select private hospitals will perform surgeries for free if the government hospitals are not able to provide surgical assistance to Delhiites within 30 days.

Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain announced this scheme on Wednesday.

Another Aam Admi Party health initiative Mohalla clinic is popular amid the city people. The scheme allows people to use an automatic medicine dispenser for urgent needs.

The AAP administration has tied up with 41 private NABH-accredited hospitals to facilitate 30 kinds of surgeries – including heart bypass, cataract and kidney stone removal procedures- for pateints referred by Delhi government hospitals, reported Nav Bharat Times.

It will reimburse the hospitals at Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) rates for the complete treatment – including pre-surgery consultation, surgery, medicines, food and hospital stay, and follow-ups for a month after discharge, according to a Hindustan Times report.
At present, patients visiting Delhi government hospitals have to wait anywhere between six months and three years to undergo these surgeries.
"We have tied up with several big private hospitals in the city to reduce the backlog in our hospitals. If the patient gets a surgery date over a month later, they will be automatically referred to these hospitals," said Delhi health minister Satyendar Jain.
