Former BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya, who was responsible for marketing thegame to new heights, was today expelled from the Board for life and removed fromall posts on charges of financial irregularities during his tenure at the helmof BCCI.

The special general body of the Board, which met in Jaipur and heard him onthe charges levelled against him, adopted a resolution that expelled him fromthe Board and barred him from holding any position in any organs of the cricketbody, including state associations.

The resolution was adopted 29-2 against him. The Cricket Association ofBengal, of which he is the president, and the National Cricket Club, Kolkata, ofwhich also he is the head voted in his support.

Interestingly, Ranbir Singh Mahendra, once his loyalist, voted against him.

The 66-year-old Dalmiya, a former president of the International CricketCouncil, has been given the right to appeal after three years for inclusion inthe Board, BCCI media committee member Rajiv Shukla said after the meeting. Eventhen, he would be allowed re-entry only if two-third members of the board passhis name.

However, Dalmiya, who has strongly denied the charges, said after theexpulsion that he had submitted a 46-page report which the disciplinarycommittee did not even read.

"They did not even read it. They are all biased. There is nomisappropriation. It is only their misinterpretation," he said.

The BCCI took the decision following embezzlement of funds to thetune of Rs 42 crores. Dalmiya, in his reply to the BCCI, had provided vouchersof only 272 transactions.

BCCI vice-president Shashank Manohar told reporters "Dalmiya could notprovide any explanation for the misappropriation of the funds following which hewas expelled."

The former BCCI chief had challenged the legality of the disciplinarycommittee and also the convening of a special general meeting.

He had also claimed that as per Board`s rules and regulations, anydisciplinary issue should be resolved within six months and since the processagainst him had commenced on February 27 this year, it was no longer valid.

Dalmiya had moved the Madras High Court seeking a stay on the meeting but hisapplication was rejected yesterday.
