Yogi Adityanath's tough stance on 'illegal' slaughterhouses in Uttar Pradesh has found a supporter in the Haryana Cow Protection and Enrichment Unit (HCPEU) which is now trying to stop the state government from providing commercial licenses to slaughterhouses in the state in the name of the intensified 'gauraksha' movement.

The state government has thus decided not to issue licenses to slaughterhouses anymore, with the HCPEU stressing that no more than the two slaughterhouses already existing in the muslim dominated Mewar district, be constructed in Haryana, said a report in Mail Today.

HCPEU president Bhani Ram Mangla said it will intensify the movement from the last week of April or the first week of May to stop the smuggling of cattle in the state. "One of the major reasons behind banning illegal slaughterhouses in UP is the cruelty factor. We will put this point before the chief minister and request him of ending the procedures of providing commercial licenses for slaughterhouses," Mangla said to the newspaper.

The 'gauraksha' movement has gained more prominence ever since the BJP won a historic victory in the recently concluded Assembly elections. The elevation of Yogi Adityanath to the post of the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and the crackdown on slaughterhouses in the state has further intensified the movement.

The HCPEU seek to stop cattle smuggling in the state. The Haryana Police has deployed the Special Task Force in 21 districts for the same. According to a report by the Hindustan Times, the head of the Cow Protection Task Force (CPTF) said that there has been a drop in the number of cow smuggling cases since Haryana implemented a law for protection and conservation of cows in 2015.
