Bye Bye, Says Buta

He did take the salute. He did not get the boot. He resigned. But only because of his 'sheer respect' for SC. And he did insist 'the SC has erred'.

"I have faxed my resignation letter to President (A P J Abdul Kalam)......."Injustice has been meted out to me. Out of sheer respect for the Supreme Court, I haveresigned"

"The Supreme Court says my report misled the government. There are two aspects to my report. One, about horse-trading and the other, that I did not entertain claims (to form the government)

"I was building up a daily file on this (horse-trading) and this was eventually sent to the president. There were other proofs - of people being whisked away in armoured vehicles, of how one person signed for 13 or 14 (legislators). What more proof do you need of horse trading?"

"I documented all this in my letters of April 27 and May 21 to thePresident,"

"Secondly, the court says I did not entertain claims (on government formation). You were all with me. Can you tell me of one person who made a claim, or did anyone say he was making a claim, or was any resolution passed and sent to me, or did anyone come and say he would prove his majority?"

"On both counts, the honourable Supreme Court has erred. I have the greatest respect for the Supreme Court and one of these days, when I get an opportunity, I will go before the Supreme Court and explain mystand."
