The Bharatiya Janata Party today opposed pro-Azadi speech of former Chief Minister Dr. Farooq Abdullah accusing him of provocation and instigation. The BJP went further and said given Abdullah’s pro-militant and pro-Azadi statement, he should now focus on leading militants instead of thinking about contesting Lok Sabha elections.

The state BJP spokesperson, Prof. Virender Gupta said that such statements were not expected from a person, who has remained Chief Minister of the state and Union Minister.

“His statement proves beyond doubt that Farooq Abdullah is responsible for the present state of affairs in the Valley that started during the period, when he was Chief Minister of the state, before 1990”, he added.

On Friday Abdullah in open defence of militants, said they are sacrificing their lives for freedom. “If our children are offering sacrifices today, they do not want to become MLAs or MPs or minister. They offer sacrifices (for) their rights: this is our land, we are its owners,” Abdullah said.

Abdullah said a “new nation has been born, which does not fear guns”. “This (new) nation strives to achieve the freedom of this country.” Abdullah said.

Gupta said Abdullah should lead the militants instead of contesting election for Lok Sabha. “As in elections, he has to take oath of Indian Constitution and integrity of India to which he is questioning in his present statement.”

Farooq Abdullah, the spokesman said, should remember that Government of India had not given any promise to grant Azadi to the Valley. “The NC members in the Constituent Assembly of India agreed to be the part of Indian Union; the Delhi Accord of 1952 and Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir State confirmed the accession of J&K State with Indian Union”, Gupta said.

“After that there was no question of any Plebiscite in Jammu and Kashmir”, he added.
