The police officer who is in charge of Chattisgarh's Bastar region--Shiv Ram Prasad Kalluri has gone on 'medical leave' over allegations of him sending threat messages from his phone to activists.
Kalluri had reportedly applied for leave for a kidney transplant. His junior Sundar Raj has been asked to take charge of the Maoist insurgency-prone Bastar region, said a report on NDTV.
He was accused of threatening journalists, social activists over phone messages when he was asked to ensure security to Bastar-based social scientist/activist Bela Bhatia.

According to reports Pyoli Swatija, a Supreme Court lawyer had sent a message to the Kalluri urging him to ensure the security of Bhatia. Pyoli alleged that after the exchange of a couple of messages, Kalluri sent a response saying "F.U." The matter grabbed eyeballs after she made the screenshots of the correspondence public on her Facebook wall.

Earlier this month, a group of men had threatened to burn down Bhatia's house if she did not leave Bastar. The group of violent protestors also intimidated her landlady.

Chhattisgarh CM Raman Singh met Bhatia a day after messages from across the country that stormed the top cop-- and were replied to in a threatening, abusive manner-- were made public.
