Stubble Burning Begins In Punjab, Haryana; Smog Starts To Cover Delhi Skies

Even before winter arrives, Delhi has already started witnessing a smog cover early mornings and evenings. The primary cause of the smog is the stubble burning by farmers in Punjab and Haryana. Farmers say they are compelled to burn stubbles as alternative methods are very expensive. Sarvajeet Singh, a farmer from Kurukshetra, says that cleaning 1 killa (1 acre) costs around Rs 4,000-5,000, despite the court order. So, the only option that is left is burning of stubble.
