On Wednesday, eight members of a family, including women and children, tried to set themselves on fire in front of the Karnataka Assembly (Vidhan Soudha). They did this because a bank was auctioning their house to recover money they owed.

The family borrowed ₹50 lakh from the Bangalore City Cooperative Bank in 2016. They could only pay back ₹95 lakh, not the full amount, including interest and other charges, as reported by NDTV.

The bank decided to auction their house, and the family protested by pouring kerosene on themselves outside the Vidhan Soudha.

The police stopped them in time, and the family members were taken into custody.
