Ranbir Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, Bobby Deol and Anil Kapoor starrer ‘Animal’ is all set to hit theatres tomorrow. The film is one of the most talked about films of this year, and people everywhere are dying to watch this Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial. However, it might be a bit out of reach for a huge populace. Courtesy, the price of the tickets.

Yes, you read that right! At some of the major movie theatres, the advance booking prices have gone more than Rs 2000. It’s true that Ranbir Kapoor is a huge star, his fan following is immense, and audiences might want to pay even that high a price to watch one of the biggest films of the year. But for an average family of 4 people, going to watch ‘Animal’ might take them back by around Rs 10000, which might be almost 1/5th of an average family’s income.

Rohit Choudhary, who was part of the recent blockbuster ‘Gadar 2’ begins by saying, “A movie that reaches the masses definitely does better than movies that cater to a certain class. Price hikes, as such, will restrict viewers. I wonder what prompts the ‘Animal’ movie team to adopt such an unconventional marketing strategy. If you look at past hit movies, they made their tickets cheaper or offered 1+1 deals or made them tax-free. An example of a super-hit film, ‘Gadar 2’, is not far away. For me, this seems to be a recipe to make a movie less approachable to the masses and, therefore, results in poor box office business.

“Post covid box office has witnessed a dry run and after ‘Pathaan’, ‘Jawan’, ‘Gadar 2’ and now ‘Tiger 3’ things have changed. Hindi films are also working. I always feel tickets should be affordable, the purpose of cinema is to reach to the masses and to entertain them. No doubt the trailer of ‘Animal’ was amazing and the hype is huge. Ranbir Kapoor is a great actor; Rashmika is a sensation. And not to forget Anil Kapoor and Bobby Deol. The price is quite high and they should have little consideration regarding the ticket price. On the same day Meghna Gulzar’s ‘Sam Bahadur’ is also releasing so there will be tough competition. The ultimate winner will be the best storyteller,” says Ranaksh Rana talking about the recent blockbusters and the price hikes attached to them.

The trailer of ‘Animal’ has indeed been appreciated a lot. Right from Ranbir Kapoor’s high-baritone dialogues to the vicious look of Bobby Deol, everything has been loved by audiences. Even Rashmika Mandanna’s dialogues have become a goldmine of memes.

Ivanka Das, who is a big fan of Ranbir Kapoor, says, “Honestly, Ranbir Kapoor is an amazing actor. He really nails every role he takes on. But, the ticket price of 2000 rupees is quite high, especially for the middle class and struggling youth. It’s unfair to expect people to pay so much just to watch a movie. Distributors should consider that most people are middle class and, in a few months, the movie will be available on OTT anyway. Many people are still dealing with economic losses from the pandemic, and spending 2000 rupees on a movie is a luxury when that amount could cover a week’s worth of groceries for a middle-class family. Personally, even if it were my film, I wouldn’t go. I’d rather wait for it to come on OTT.”

Mohit Malhotra has himself been part of some of the biggest shows and recently made his debut in films, says, “The tickets for Ranbir Kapoor’s movie ‘Animal’ are kind of expensive, starting at 2000 Rs. Personally, I think it’s a bit too much. I’m being careful about deciding to buy a ticket at this price. You can only tell if it’s worth spending that much after you actually watch the movie. So, I’m not sure if it’s a good deal until I see what the movie has to offer. Even though Ranbir Kapoor is a big star, the high-ticket price makes me think twice. A lot of people are excited to see him in ‘Animal’. But for me, deciding to get a ticket at this high cost, especially in the first week, depends on whether the movie is really good and enjoyable. I’ll only know if it’s worth the money after I watch it.”

“I enjoy watching movies of Ranbir Kapoor, but I think the cost of tickets for the movie ‘Animal’ is too high. I’ve decided to wait a few weeks before watching it or maybe catch it on an OTT platform. I believe it’s not necessary to watch every film in the theatre during its first week,” says Pranitaa Pandit opening about the film’s eventual release on OTT a few weeks down the line.
