The grandest celebration of the silver screen just happened with the Oscars 2023 becoming such big news. While India and Indian films were a massive hit at the Academy Awards this year, the excitement is yet not over. People are still talking about the victories of ‘The Elephant Whisperers’ and ‘Naatu Naatu’ from ‘RRR’.

‘Encanto’ won the Best Animated Feature Film in 2022 for bringing together diversity and the most authentic representation of Colombian culture.
Walt Disney Animation Studios’ ‘Encanto’ tells the tale of an extraordinary family, the Madrigals, who live hidden in the mountains of Colombia, in a magical house, in a vibrant town, in a wondrous, charmed place called an Encanto. The magic of the Encanto has blessed every child in the family with a unique gift from super strength to the power to heal—every child except one, Mirabel (voice of Stephanie Beatriz). But when she discovers that the magic surrounding the Encanto is in danger, Mirabel decides that she, the only ordinary Madrigal, might just be her exceptional family’s last hope. Releasing on Nov. 24, 2021, the film features all-new songs by Emmy, Grammy and Tony Award winner Lin-Manuel Miranda and is directed by Byron Howard and Jared Bush, co-directed by Charise Castro Smith, and produced by Clark Spencer and Yvett Merino. Bush and Castro Smith are screenwriters on the film.
‘Eyes Of Tammy Faye’
Nominated in two big categories in 2022, ‘Eyes Of Tammy Faye’ won both with Jessica Chastain winning Best Actress in a leading role and the film winning for Best Makeup and Hair Style.

In the 1970s and ‘80s, Tammy Faye and her husband, Jim Bakker, rose from humble beginnings to create the world’s largest religious broadcasting network and theme park. Renowned for her message of love, acceptance and prosperity, Tammy Faye became inseparable from her indelible eyelashes, her idiosyncratic singing, and her eagerness to embrace people from all walks of life. However, it wasn’t long before financial improprieties, scheming rivals, and scandal toppled their carefully constructed empire.
‘West Side Story’
Ariana DeBose, who was for the first time nominated for Oscars 2022 won Best Actress in a Supporting Role for ‘West Side Story’.
Directed by Academy Award winner Steven Spielberg, from a screenplay by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winner Tony Kushner, ‘West Side Story’ tells the classic tale of fierce rivalries and young love in 1957 New York City. This reimagining of the beloved musical stars Ansel Elgort (Tony); Rachel Zegler (María); Ariana DeBose (Anita); David Alvarez (Bernardo); Mike Faist (Riff); Josh Andrés Rivera (Chino); Ana Isabelle (Rosalía); Corey Stoll (Lieutenant Schrank); Brian d’Arcy James (Officer Krupke); and Rita Moreno (as Valentina, who owns the corner store in which Tony works). Moreno – one of only three artists to be honoured with Academy, Emmy, Grammy, Tony and Peabody Awards – also serves as one of the film’s executive producers. Bringing together the best of both Broadway and Hollywood, the film’s creative team includes Kushner, who also served as an executive producer; Tony Award winner Justin Peck, who choreographed the musical numbers in the film; renowned Los Angeles Philharmonic conductor and Grammy Award winner Gustavo Dudamel, who helmed the recording of the iconic score; Academy Award-nominated composer and conductor David Newman, who arranged the score, Tony Award-winning composer Jeanine Tesori, who supervised the cast on vocals; and Grammy-nominated music supervisor Matt Sullivan, who serves as executive music producer for the film. ‘Summer Of Soul’
‘Summer Of Soul’ has won the Best Documentary (Feature) at the Oscars 2022.
In his acclaimed debut as a filmmaker, Ahmir Thompson presents a powerful and transporting documentary—part music film, part historical record created around an epic event that celebrated Black history, culture and fashion. Over the course of six weeks in the summer of 1969, just one hundred miles south of Woodstock, The Harlem Cultural Festival was filmed in Mount Morris Park (now Marcus Garvey Park). Chloé Zhao became the first woman of colour and only the second woman ever, to win the best director for ‘Nomadland’. Frances McDormand also won Best Actress in a Leading Role for this movie. Meanwhile, it also won the Best Picture award at the 93rd Academy Awards.

Writer director Taika Waititi brings his signature style of humour and pathos to his latest film, ‘Jojo Rabbit’, a World War II satire that follows a lonely German boy (Roman Griffin Davis as Jojo) whose world view is turned upside down when he discovers his single mother (Scarlett Johansson) is hiding a young Jewish girl (Thomasin McKenzie) in their attic. Aided only by his idiotic imaginary friend, Adolf Hitler (Taika Waititi), Jojo must confront his blind nationalism. Jojo Rabbit with a screenplay by and directed by Taika Waititi is based upon the book Caging Skies by Christine Leunens and stars Roman Griffin Davis, Thomasin McKenzie, Taika Waititi, Rebel Wilson, Stephen Merchant, Alfie Allen, with Sam Rockwell and Scarlett Johansson.
