The Sachin Story - Part I

IT was always a question of when, not if. But who would have guessed that the expected book on Sachin Tendulkar would be all in the family— brother and mentor Ajit is the author of the forthcoming tome on the wonderboy turned he-man of Indian cricket. Father Ramesh will do the Marathi translation.

"Several publishers had approached us for a biography, but we turned them all down because we thought that it was still too premature," says Ajit. "Those offers planted an idea in my head: why not write it myself since I had seen him up close?"

Sachin Tendulkar, the book, is more than half-way through. Ajit, an Air India employee, has been working on it the whole of this year. The biography will shed light on Sachin’s rise and stop exactly at the point of his selection for the Bombay Ranji team. There will be no word on his entry into the Test team. No prizes for guessing if there will be a sequel.
