An emotional Amanda Anisimova was reduced to tears on Court One after booking her place in the Wimbledon quarter-finals with a win over Linda Noskova.

Anisimova, who is in the final eight for the second time at the All England Club, earned a 6-2 5-7 6-4 victory over Noskova in a two-hour and two-minute battle on Sunday.

The American sealed her progression with a backhand after Noskova lofted the ball high into the air, which saw her let her emotions pour out after a tough few years.

Anisimova dropped to 422 in the women's rankings after taking a break from the sport in May 2023, citing burnout and concerns about her mental health.

Following her win over Noskova, Anisimova will now rise to eighth in the world after her run in SW19, and the 23-year-old expressed her pride after overcoming her struggles.

"It's amazing to be back here. Honestly coming back after last year, playing in qualies, I didn't expect to be in the quarter-finals here again," Anisimova said after her match.

"I'm so excited and proud of myself, and I'm looking forward to another challenge.

"Yeah it was an incredibly tough match. Linda was really pushing me there. She's a really tough player to face. It was a huge battle.

"I wasn't sure if I was going to make it to the finish line. I was just trying to enjoy every moment. It's my first time playing on this court, so it was a great experience."

Anisimova's triumph saw her become the first American to reach the women's singles quarter-finals in consecutive appearances at Wimbledon since Serena Williams (four in a row between 2015 and 2019).

Compatriot Emma Navarro, who is in action against seventh seed Mirra Andreeva on Monday, can also equal that record.

But Anisimova will now turn her attentions to a final eight encounter with Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, who beat Sonay Kartal in straight sets earlier in the day.

She has a perfect record against Pavlyuchenkova, winning all three of their previous meetings, but Anisimova acknowledged that she faces a stern test to reach the semi-finals.

"She's a super experienced player, plays really well on the grass, it's also her second quarter-final I think," Anisimova added.

"An unbelievable player and I'm sure it's going to be a really good battle out there. Hopefully all you guys can come out and support me again!"
