Venus Williams, Reilly Opelka, Amanda Anisimova and Holger Rune headlined the updated list of teams entering the revamped US Open mixed doubles championship.

Last month, 16 teams were entered to play in the tournament, but more pairs have been added to the mix ahead of the entry window closing on July 28.

And on Monday, an updated list of 25 duos was released, but only 16 will make the cut ahead of the competition starting on August 19, with the victors winning a $1 million prize.

Once the entry window closes, the top eight teams with the best combined singles ranking will be directly accepted into the draw.

The USTA will select the other eight teams and give them wild-card invitations, with the tournament operating as best-of-three-set matches.

Some of the previous pairings will see recently crowned Wimbledon champions Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek team up with Emma Navarro and Casper Ruud, respectively, with Carlos Alcaraz paired with Emma Raducanu.

But one of the surprise entries was two-time US Open champion Williams, who recently announced she would be making her first tour-level appearance in 16 months after accepting a wild card at the Washington Open.

In addition, Katie Boulter will partner with Alex De Minaur, while Donna Vekic will team up with Hubert Hurkacz.

Other pairs include Karolina Muchova and Andrey Rublev, Iva Jovic and Jenson Brooksby, Gaby Dabrowski and Felix Auger-Aliassime, Demi Schuurs and Tallon Griekspoor, Katerina Siniakova and Marcelo Arevalo, Desirae Krawczyk and Evan King and Su-Wei Hsieh and Jan Zielinski.
