The World No.3 was more challenged in the first-round clash with Taylor Townsend than in this, where she looked more in her element. Swiatek flew to a 4-0 lead initially, but a series of errors during her service game allowed her opponent to get on the scoreboard. However, the errors didn't prove very costly for the third set as she broke the serve again and packed the first set in just 25 minutes. Pliskova, who's coming after a long injury break, started the second set well and took a 2-0 lead, but two double faults from her allowed Swiatek to sniff a comeback, and she grabbed the opportunity with both hands to shift gears and win four games. Pliskova, a former finalist, could not fight back as Swiatek broke her serve to love and sealed the win, setting up a third-round clash against Alexandra Eala or Maya Joint.
