Iga Swiatek continued her momentum from her Wimbledon triumph as she proved no match for qualifier Hanyu Guo in her second round clash at the Canadian Open.

Swiatek, who clinched her first title in SW19 earlier this month, stormed to a 6-3 6-1 victory in just one hour and 11 minutes in Montreal on Wednesday.

The second seed will now face either Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova or Eva Lys for a place in the round of 16.

Swiatek opened the game strongly with a break in the second game as she quickly surged into a 4-0 lead before Guo got herself on the scoreboard.

But by then the damage had been done as the Pole sealed the first set at the second time of asking, but she turned on the style to seal her progression.

The six-time grand slam champion exchanged breaks of serve with her opponent before reeling off the next five games, clinching the win as Guo found the net with a forehand.

Earlier in the day, Madison Keys enjoyed a similarly dominant display in her opening match of the tournament as she breezed past Laura Siegemund in straight sets.

Keys emerged a 6-2 6-1 victor to set up a clash with compatriot Catherine McNally in the next round, with the American ending her poor recent run in Canada.

She had lost her opening match in four of her last five outings at the Canadian Open, only defeating Venus Williams in Montreal in 2023, but was able to get the job done here.

Data Debrief: Super Swiatek will take some stopping

The Canadian Open is one of the two WTA-1000 events Swiatek has appeared at without ever reaching the final, along with Cincinnati, but if her opening-round performance is anything to go by, she will be one of the favourites to lift the trophy.

Indeed, her triumph saw her pick up her 115th WTA-1000 main draw win in her 142nd such match. Only Serena Williams (130 matches) has reached that number of victories in fewer encounters than Swiatek.

Swiatek is also the first player to win 63 consecutive opening matches at WTA events (including United Cup and WTA Finals) since Monica Seles (64 between Washington 1990 and Oakland 1996).
