The two stars have faced each other five times before, with Amanda Anisimova leading the head-to-head 3-2. Aryna Sabalenka has won only two of their previous encounters so this time, its not gonna be a one-sided battle.
The Belarusian fought back after losing the first set 4-6 to defeat Siegemund in three sets, claiming the next two 6-2, 6-4 in the quarterfinals. Earlier, Sabalenka had powered past Elise Mertens in the round of 16 with a 6-4, 7-6 win. Interestingly, Aryna has 3 Grand Slam titles but she has never reached a Wimbledon final -- and this time, it’s starting to feel different.
Speaking of Amanda Anisimova, she reached her first Wimbledon semi-final with win over Russia's Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, 6-1, 6-7. The 23-year-old American is making her second career appearance in a Grand Slam semi-final, having first broken through with a stunning run at Roland-Garros in 2019 at just 17 years old.
Interestingly, neither top seed Aryna Sabalenka nor teenage wonder Amanda Anisimova have ever reached the Wimbledon finals.
Anisimova’s best Grand Slam performance has been making the semis in the French Open 2019, and she equalled that feat with tonight’s appearance at SW19. Meanwhile, Sabalenka is preparing for her fourth consecutive singles final in a Grand Slam event, but can she lift the hallowed Wimbledon trophy this time?

We are underway... and Amanda Anismova snaps up the first point quickly. It is going to be a good battle today!
A double-fault from Sabalenka allows Anisimova to retake the lead in the first set, which now stands at 3-2. The Belarusian has looked nervy in the early stages, making some unforced errors.
A brief break in the play as a spectator in the East Stand appears to be under some trouble under the sun.
Both players have had to work hard to win this point, but Anisimova comes out on top. She used her backhand well, but Sabalenka went on the attack well to hold the American off. However, the 13th seed takes a 4-3 lead.
It’s cat and mouse between the two players, worthy of a semi-final. Sabalenka looks settled, and used her full skillset to tie it at four-all, but then Anisimova roared back to completely dominate the next game to take the lead again. 5-4 for the America.
Anisimova is on a dream-run in the cagey semi-final affair, taking the first set after a fault from Sabalenka. 6-4 for the American.
Both players are giving their all at the moment, as the grunts will tell you. Anisimova is going toe-to-toe with Sabalenka in all the stats columns, winning 76% of her first serve points and 63% of her second serve points. Too many unforced errors from both players, though.
A double fault from Anisimova allowed Sabalenka to break, and from then on, the set has well and truly belonged to the Belarusian star. Even when she made mistakes with her shot selection, Sabalenka was rarely bothered. Anisimova, who seemed fearless in front of the top seed so far, seems rattled. The match is almost tied.
Not so fast, Aryna! She failed to make her advantage count four times, and then Anisimova moves forward to keep the set alive. The game has kicked on!
Aryna Sabalenka shows her pedigree in this set, taking it 6-4 to tie the match one-all. She has recovered from her stop-start beginning, and is using her forehand lethally, taking the lead before Anisimova misses the ball to hand the set to the Belarusian.
Despite the early dominance by Sabalenka, Anisimova has absolutely stunned the top seed, taking a 4-1 lead in the decider. She has neutralised Sabalenka’s forehands so far. At this point, it will be hard to stop the American.
Sabalenka is fighting for her Wimbledon campaign at the moment. Trailing big at one point, she has put Anisimova under severe pressure now, despite the American’s use of her backhand. This game is going down to the wire.
Take a bow, Ms Anisimova. The 23-year-old defended brilliantly against Sabalenka, and finally booked her place in the finals. It's history being made, as this is the first time that a top seed has lost in the Wimbledon WTA semi-finals in 19 years!
