Lee Westwood has qualified for The Open, ending a three-year absence from golf's top competitions. The former world number one has not featured at a major since he joined LIV Golf in 2022.

However, Westwood will be able to play at Royal Portrush after he earned a place through Final Regional Qualifying.

Westwood had rounds of  70 and 67 at Dundonald Links, leading the five qualifiers at a seven-under par 137.

"I've always said it's the greatest championship in golf and as a British player you get phenomenal support," said Westwood, who is a two-time runner-up at the Masters.

"I'm just looking forward to enjoying the week at Portrush, seeing a few old friends and enjoying that golf course."

Westwood has 25 DP World Tour (formerly European Tour) titles and two PGA Tour wins to his name. He finished second at The Open in 2010.
