An explosive flyweight kickboxing showdown between two high-octane warriors is heading to ONE Fight Night 35: Buntan vs. Hemetsberger on Prime Video, which takes place at Bangkok’s legendary Lumpinee Stadium.
On Friday, September 5, in U.S. primetime, the global fan base will see a pivotal battle that could impact the division’s top-five rankings, as #5-ranked contender “Samingpri” Tagir Khalilov will square off against undefeated Japanese sensation Hyu Iwata.
Khalilov has left his mark on the global stage, showcasing his match-winning knockout power and durability across nine promotional appearances.
The Russian-Azerbaijani juggernaut has competed against the likes of former ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion Rodtang “The Iron Man” Jitmuangnon and reigning ONE Flyweight Kickboxing World Champion “The Kicking Machine” Superlek Kiatmoo9.
Although the two striking titans defeated him, the 32-year-old’s courageous showings earned him the respect and admiration of the global fan base.
Thus far, he’s amassed four triumphs under the ONE Championship banner, including two brilliant highlight-reel finishes against Black Panther and Chorfah Tor Sangtiennoi.
Khalilov rewarded the fans for their support in his most recent showing at ONE Fight Night 32 last month, as he bagged a thrilling unanimous decision victory over 19-year-old Chinese standout Liao Shixu.
Now, he makes a quick turnaround with the hopes of scoring back-to-back victories and continuing his ascent up the flyweight kickboxing mountain, which is currently ruled by his old rival, Superlek.
First, he’ll have to do something no one else has been able to do: defeat Hyu.
The 23-year-old Japanese dynamo has steamrolled through the competition so far in ONE Championship. He enjoyed a successful promotional debut, putting on a three-round striking clinic against Youcef Saad last September. Then, he knocked out Leandro Miranda in February and Zakaria El Jamari just a month later.
Hyu’s trio of wins in the world’s largest martial arts organization sees his unblemished record stand at 11-0, but he’ll need to bring his A-game to ensure he can emerge victorious against someone of Khalilov’s caliber.
