ONE Fight Night 33 Results: Dayakev Sets Historic Record, Sawada And Sangiao Bounce Back In Style

Here is everything that went down before the main event of ONE Fight Night 33!

ONE Championship

ONE Fight Night 33: Rodrigues vs. Persson on Prime Video delivered explosive action live in U.S. primetime from Bangkok’s Lumpinee Stadium on Friday, July 11, as the supporting card set the stage for the evening’s Women’s Atomweight Muay Thai World Title main event.

The night belonged to Abdulla “Smash Boy” Dayakaev, who etched his name into ONE Championship history with the fastest knockout in the organization’s Muay Thai division, blitzing Nontachai Jitmuangnon in just 24 seconds.

Meanwhile, “The Machine” Jhanlo Mark Sangiao made a triumphant return after nearly two years away from competition, while Chihiro Sawada proved she remains a major threat in the atomweight MMA rankings with a slick submission victory.

Here’s everything that went down on the supporting card of ONE Fight Night 33: Rodrigues vs. Persson on Prime Video.

Shadow Vs. Rabah Declared No Contest Due To Accidental Eye Poke

The co-main event featured a featherweight Muay Thai showdown between #3-ranked contender Shadow Singha Mawynn and “The Eagle” Mohamed Younes Rabah. The bout may have ended in a no contest, but it provided fiery action for as long as it lasted.

Both warriors traded strikes early in the tilt. Rabah targeted the lead leg with low kicks, while Shadow retaliated with elbows and punches.

With the partisan crowd behind him, Shadow earned the first, and only, knockdown of the match with a perfectly-timed counter-strike. When the Algerian destroyer threw a one-two combination, the Thai star managed to dodge it and create space to unleash a thunderous right hand from a blind angle.

Rabah managed to regain his footing to survive the opening stanza, but an unintentional eye poke from Shadow early in the second round left the Algerian unable to see. Following an examination by the ringside doctor, the bout was called off and declared a no contest.

Sawada Submits Aragon With First-Round Armbar

Fifth-ranked atomweight MMA contender Chihiro Sawada proved she remains a major threat by submitting Macarena Aragon in their divisional battle.

After a brief boxing exchange, Aragon executed a perfect hip toss to bring the action to the canvas and started landing kicks from the standing position. Every time Sawada got back up, the Argentine kept dragging her back down to the mat, but this eventually backfired on her.

In the final 80 seconds of the opening stanza, as Aragon was unleashing ground-and-pound strikes in the Japanese athlete’s guard, Sawada grabbed hold of her foe’s right arm and twisted it into an armbar. Once she went belly-down with the submission, the Argentine was trapped and had no choice but to tap out at the 3:52 mark of round one.

The victory put Sawada back in the win column, moved her record to 9-1, and helped her maintain her #5 spot in the atomweight MMA rankings.

Dayakaev Enters History Books With Lightning-Fast KO Of Nontachai

Third-ranked bantamweight Muay Thai contender Abdulla “Smash Boy” Dayakaev made a record-breaking featherweight debut by blitzing Nontachai Jitmuangnon in just 24 seconds of round one, ending the Thai’s eight-fight winning streak and scoring the fastest knockout in the history of ONE’s Muay Thai division.

Once the opening bell rang, the two met in the middle of the squared circle and began to exchange inside the pocket. Nontachai tried to counter a right hand from Dayakaev with an uppercut, but the Dagestani countered that punch with one of his own – a left hook.

When the shot connected, it whipped the Thai’s head around and he tumbled to the canvas. The referee administered the eight-count, but when the Thai was unable to regain his footing, the bout was waved off.

With the win, “Smash Boy” improved his record to 15-2, scored his 11th career knockout, and earned a US$50,000 performance bonus.

Sangiao Chokes Out Zoltsetseg In Final Seconds

After nearly two years away from competition, “The Machine” Jhanlo Mark Sangiao returned in highlight-reel fashion. The 23-year-old bounced back from his first career loss by stopping Shinechagtga Zoltsetseg in their bantamweight MMA showdown.

Soon after the bell rang to begin round one, the Filipino phenom quickly shot for a double-leg takedown. Then, he latched onto Zoltsetseg’s left arm and attempted to secure an armbar, but the Mongolian scraped out of trouble.

In the second stanza, Sangiao landed another takedown and eventually made his way to full mount, where he rained down thunderous strikes. Zoltsetseg flipped positions and landed some shots of his own, but the Team Lakay prince kept his cool.

After dodging an overhand left in the final frame, Sangiao secured another takedown. From there, the Filipino delivered crushing knee strikes to the body and worked his way to his opponent’s back. He then locked in a tight rear-naked choke to force the tap at the 4:42 mark of round three.

The win pushed “The Machine’s” record to 7-1 overall and kept his 100 percent finishing rate intact.
