Rodrigues has emerged as one of the most powerful and technical female Muay Thai practitioners in the sport today, but Johanna Persson has all the tools needed to dethrone her.

The Swede enters this contest on the strength of a seven-bout winning streak, capped by a five-round victory over Rhona Walker to claim the WBC Muay Thai World Title. What’s more, she has a 13-3 record with several knockouts to her credit, proving she has both the endurance and power to match Rodrigues.

#2 Atomweight Stars Take Center Stage

The main event may feature a must-see clash for the ONE Women’s Atomweight Muay Thai World Championship, but Rodrigues and Persson aren’t the only ones from the weight class who are scheduled for action.

In fact, the next World Title challenger could emerge earlier in the night.

Polish standout Martyna Kierczynska wants to be her country’s first ONE World Champion, and since making her promotional debut in February 2024, she has impressed with her high-volume combinations, sensational speed, and incredible strength. But surging Mexican veteran Cynthia Flores will look to make a statement in her promotional debut by taking out a leading contender with her all-action style.

Speaking of atomweights, fans will also be treated to a pivotal clash that could impact the division’s top-five MMA rankings. Japanese grappling ace Chihiro Sawada is eager to bounce back from her first career loss, showcase her improvements, and defend her #5 spot, but Argentine judo specialist Macarena Aragon could extend her rival’s descent and leapfrog her in the rankings.

#3 A Featherweight Muay Thai World Title Challenger Could Emerge

ONE Featherweight Muay Thai World Champion Tawanchai PK Saenchai would be wise to pay attention to all the action at ONE Fight Night 33, as his next challenger could emerge from his event.

After rattling off five straight victories at ONE Friday Fights and winning a six-figure contract in March, #3-ranked contender Shadow Singha Mawynn will finally make his U.S. primetime debut.

Shadow has all the skills to be a mainstay in the featherweight Muay Thai ranks for years to come, but on Friday, he’ll be standing across the ring from “The Eagle” Mohamed Younes Rabah, a 6-foot-2 Algerian monster who has only lost one time in his career – and that was in the bantamweight division. 

After that defeat, he moved up to a weight class better suited to his gargantuan body size and showed in his victory over Eddie Abasolo last November that he is arguably more dangerous than ever.

In addition, Nontachai Jitmuangnon will attempt to maintain his flawless promotional run against Abdulla “Smash Boy” Dayakaev. The Russian knocked out former ONE World Title challenger Saemapetch Fairtex two months ago to earn the #5 spot in the bantamweight Muay Thai rankings, but he is moving up to show the world that he is a legitimate two-division threat.

#4 An Undefeated Second-Generation MMA Fighter Debuts

Fans may not be too familiar with promotional newcomer Pedro Dantas just yet, but they will be very soon.

The undefeated 22-year-old is the son of Paulo Dantas, who is a Fortaleza MMA pioneer. He made his debut in the all-encompassing sport back in 2001, when mixed martial arts wasn’t mainstream in the Western Hemisphere, and went on to claim 25 victories.

Now, the Brazilian youngster is following in his father’s footsteps, and he’s off to a solid start, having won all six of his pro matches to date and finishing each opponent within two rounds.

Dantas will look to keep the momentum rolling in his first promotional appearance at ONE Fight Night 33, but he draws an ultra-tough adversary in #4-ranked featherweight MMA contender Ilya Freymanov, who returns for the first time since his shocking ONE World Title loss in October 2023. The Russian now has a golden opportunity to kick-start his road back to the belt and hand the Brazilian his only career blemish.

#5 Jhanlo Mark Sangiao Returns With A New Motivation

After two years away from competition, Jhanlo Mark “The Machine” Sangiao is finally getting back in the ring at ONE Fight Night 33, and he’ll have a new fire in his eyes.

The last time fans saw the Team Lakay prince was back in August 2023, where he tasted defeat for the first time at the hands of #4-ranked bantamweight MMA contender Enkh-Orgil Baatarkhuu.

That loss served as a wake-up call to the Filipino stud, who recently admitted that he didn’t take the fight seriously enough. Since then, he has leveled up his skills dramatically under the watch of his father, Filipino MMA pioneer Mark Sangiao, and is eager to get redemption against Baatarkhuu’s Mongolian compatriot, Shinechagtga Zoltsetseg, who just needs one punch to end anyone’s night.

But another thing is fueling the Team Lakay prince to victory on Friday – the fact that he and his partner will be welcoming their first child soon. So, the global fan base should expect the best version of Jhanlo Mark Sangiao yet.
