If Day 1 belonged to New Zealand and Devon Conway, the second day on the ongoing first NZ vs BAN Test belonged to Bangladesh at the Bay Oval. First, the bowlers led by Mehidy Hasan picked the last five Kiwi wickets for just 70 runs restricting them to 328 all out. Mehidy and Shoriful Islam finished with three wickets each while Mominul Haque took two wickets. Then their batters replied solidly. Bangladesh lost opener Shadman Islam for 22 before Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Najmul Hossain Shanto hit half-centuries to give Bangladesh a strong platform for others to take the innings forward. Mahmudul Hasan was dropped on 20 and he capitalised on the missed chance to notch up his maiden Test fifty in his just second Test. He remained unbeaten on 70 till stumps. Shanto also registered his second Test fifty. He was out for 64. For New Zealand, their bowlers had a rare bad at the office and have to come back strongly on Day 3 to come back in the match.
