India have started the competition well, holding on to the ball and trying to build from the back. A long pass finds Lalremsiami in the circle, but the attack breaks down after the referee blows for a foul.
A good run by Rutuja earns India their first penalty corner. The injection came to Navneet, who tees up Udita. The latter's shot finds the back of the net, but the referee says that it's high and the goal will not count. India do not take the referral.
Uruguay are slowly finding their footing in the match, and they make a circle penetration, but the ball goes behind for a long corner. However, it's a wasted effort as Bichu Devi saves the wild lofted effort aimed at her. So far, the Indian custodian has been unbothered.
The first quarter comes to an end. It has been a promising performance from India, who have been miles better than Uruguay early on. However, we are yet to see the opening goal of the contest.
We have the pushback for the second quarter. A very positive start from India again, winning a free-hit in the opening minute. You just feel like the opening goal is not far away.
Lalremsiami has been one of the best players on the pitch, and she is found again in the circle by Neha. However, the referee blows for a foul and, yet again, the attack comes to an end. The final third has lacked a bit of quality from both sides.
The second penalty corner of the night for India. Salima injects the ball towards Navneet, but her shot is blocked. It hits the foot of Vilar, and it's a second penalty corner.
The second penalty corner finds the second battery, Annu, whose dragflick finds the bottom corner. Probably took a deflection of the foot of Viana, but India celebrate the goal!!
India ask for a referral, as the ball bounced off the stick of Barreiro with some height. However, the TV umpire says that there's no dangerous play involved, and the penalty corner is not given. Free out for Uruguay.
The ball hits the foot of Vilar, and India have a PC. The ball is injected to Annu, whose dragflick is blocked. Uruguay finally manage to clear the danger, but they are living dangerously.
Martinez finds the foot of Udita and Uruguay have a PC. Viana's injection and the resulting dragflick is blocked by Sushila Chanu, resulting in a cheer from the home crowd. India hold on to their lead as the hooter goes off to signal half-time. Five shots on target for India, with none for Uruguay.
We have pushback for the second half, as Navneet gets the ball rolling from the changed side. India have controlled the tempo of the first half, but they have a slender lead at the top. A good battle up ahead.
Lalremsiami makes a darting run down the left before cutting it back inside. The ball makes it way to Ishika, who finds the back of the net with her strike. However, the whistle goes off. Seems like backstick, so the goal won't count.
Another good circle penetration by India, with the ball finding Navneet. She tries a shot on the turn, but Maria Bate showed good awareness to come forward and make a save.
Beauty earns a PC, and an early change by Uruguay leads a reduction in their numbers in the circle. Navneet's shot is blocked, and the resulting goalmouth scramble is put behind for another PC. This time, the injection comes to Navneet, whose shot bounces of the goalkeeper's body and into the back of the net.
However, the umpire asks for a referral to check the height of her shot. The TV umpire says "no advice possible" so the umpire's decision of no goal stands.
Ishika with the second goal of the night to double India's lead. Her shot, from Lalremsiami's pass, goes past the Uruguayan defender on the line and finds the back of the net. Uruguay's task has gotten much tougher.
Magdalena Gomez is shown a green card for a tackle. The free-hit finds Lalremsiami, who shot goes just wide of the post. India are increasing their stranglehold on Uruguay.
Uruguay make a circle entry in the final minute of the quarter, but India are in control as they clear without much trouble. The hooter goes off as the third quarter ends. All smiles in the hosts' dugout.
India get the pushback in the final quarter. 15 more minutes for India to hold on to their lead to secure a win and one more step towards their qualification journey.
It's a controlled performance from India, biding their time in the midfield before trying to launch it forward. Lalremsiami, who has been the beating heart of the Indian attack, is found by a good space. With acres of space ahead, she runs ahead before pulling the trigger, and the shot finds the back of the net. Game, set and match for India.
India are trying to slow down the pace of the game, and to be fair, Uruguay aren't making it too tough for the hosts either. Curutchague makes a circle entry before trying to shoot on the turn, but the ball just rolls out harmlessly.
Rutuja makes a darting run into the circle, with not a single Uruguay defender coming in. She unleashes a powerful shot which gives the goalkeeper no chance. Fourth of the night for India.
The final hooter goes off, and it's all over in Hyderabad. It has been an entertaining performance from India, who have sealed a comfortable and well-deserved victory. Nice start for Sjoerd Marijne as the Indian head coach.
