BEFORE entering the house of Manoj Prabhakar these days, you have to seek an appointment. And before you knock on the door, you'll first be screened by the guard. Two attacks by intruders in two days last week, and fear is writ large on the family members.
Last Tuesday, a person tried to force his way into the former cricketer's house. When the guard checked him, the bearded intruder landed a punch on the guard's face. The intruder escaped after a struggle. In another incident on Wednesday, a white Maruti van tried to knock down the guard and a policeman on duty.
Manoj is furious. "They (the persons behind the attack) have a fight with me. Then why are they after my family? They should not be disturbed." The police have "taken note" of the incident. "The beat constable has been asked to be more vigilant," says Shobhan Singh, station house officer of the Kalkaji police station. He feels that the incident on the night of February 11 may not have been an attack. And may just have been a vehicle which swerved while being driven recklessly.
Manoj's son, Rohan, is confined to the house, and school is ruled out. His wife too does not leave the house. As the family lives in fear, there have been a spate of calls from relatives and friends enquiring about their wellbeing.
