Good Afternoon folks. Welcome to our live coverage of the WPL match between UP Warriorz and the Mumbai Indians from the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. This is the start of our blog, stay tuned for all the real-time updates, scores and more.
Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and chose to bowl first.
UPW XI: Meg Lanning (C), Kiran Navgire, Phoebe Litchfield, Harleen Deol, Shweta Sehrawat (WK), Chloe Tryon, Deepti Sharma, Sophie Ecclestone, Asha Sobhana, Shikha Pandey and Kranti Gaud
MI XI: Hayley Matthews, Gunalan Kamalini (WK), Harmanpreet Kaur (C), Nat Sciver-Brunt, Amelia Kerr, Amanjot Kaur, Nicola Carey, Sanskriti Gupta, Sajeevan Sajana, Nalla Redyy and Triveni Vasistha
Not the ideal start for the UP Warriorz as Meg Lanning's opening pair Kiran Navgire departed for a golden duck, thanks to a clean bowled from Nicola Carey.
Lanning is currently joined by her Australian junior Phoebe Litchfield.
UPW: 12/1 (1.5)
Meg Lanning and Phoebe Litchfield have settled in and the run-rate has spike up to 8 runs per over and that's what the UP Warriorz needed.
Exceptional batting from the UP Warriorz's Australian duo of Meg Lanning and Phoebe Litchfield. Their partnership has reached to 120 runs.
That was quick from the Mumbai Indians. The UP Warriorz have quickly lost the wickets of set batters Lanning (70 off 45) and Litchfield (61 off 37).
Hayley Matthews and Amanjot Kaur struck at the right time for Mumbai.
Powerful batting from Harleen Deol and Chloe Tryon as they aim to take UP Warriorz nearby a 200-run total. Both of them are batting at a strike rate of over 150.
Chloe Tryon has departed after a quickfire 21 off 13 but wicket-keeper batter Shweta Sehrawat has gone for a golden duck, which is UP Warriorz's second of the day. Harleen Deol is going strong at 25 off 15 and she has been joined by Sophie Ecclestone.
It wasn't a great finish at all from the UP Warriorz, who at one point were looking at a total of 200 but they will have to settle for 187. Harleen Deol provided the final blisters with her 25 off 16, however, the remaining batters - Sehrawat (0), Ecclestone (1), Deepti Sharma (0) and Asha Sobhana (1) couldn't do anything significant.
Hayley Matthews and Sajeevan Sajana are out in the middle to get the run chase away at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Both of them are off to a flyer, Matthews has scored 13 off 11 while Sajana has smashed 10 off just 5. It should be an easy chase for MI if they continue like this.
The Mumbai Indians openers are gone as Matthews and Sajana departed for scores of 13 and 10 respectively. Nat Sciver-Brunt and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur are in the middle quite early.
Not good signs for the Mumbai Indians as Nat Sciver-Brunt departs for 15 off 12. The onus is now on Harmanpreet Kaur and Nicola Carey now
Are UP Warriorz staging a comeback here? Nicola Carey is the latest to depart for a score of just 6 runs and Amelia Kerr has come out to bat with Harmanpreet Kaur and the Mumbai Indians are in a bit of trouble now.
Half of the Mumbai Indians batters are inside the dressing room and it is not looking good for the reigning champions. Looks like the UP Warriorz are on course for a win tonight unless MI produce something magical.
Mumbai need 83 off 34 now.
The match has taken an interesting turn but the Mumbai Indians face an uphill task as they require 47 off 17 balls to win this game.
UP Warriorz secured a convincing win against the Mumbai Indians by 22 runs at the DY Patil Stadium.
After being put in to bat, UPW posted a formidable 187/8, thanks to aggressive half-centuries from Meg Lanning (70) and Phoebe Litchfield (61). Despite Amelia Kerr’s unbeaten 49, Mumbai struggled against a disciplined UPW attack led by Shikha Pandey, finishing on 165/6 and handing the Warriorz a crucial win in the standings.
