Sri Lanka defeated Bangladesh in the third and final ODI match by 99 runs at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Pallekele on Tuesday. Kusal Mendis scored a century for Sri Lanka to set up the win before the new ball duo of Asitha Fernando and Dushmantha Chameera picked up three scalps each to complete a convincing win for the hosts. The win helped Sri Lanka clinch series 2-1.

Earlier, Charith Asalanka had won the toss and decided that Sri Lanka would bat first in the series decider.

Sri Lanka rode on the century from Mendis who finished with 124 off 114 balls. Captain Asalanka also contributed with important 58 runs while in-form opener Pathum Nissanka had scored 35. An underwhelming finish meant Sri Lanka were stopped at 285/7 in their 50 overs.

Sri Lankan bowlers then kept on taking wickets consistently to push Bangladesh out of the game. Fernando and Chameera picked up three wickets each while Wanindu Hasaranga and Dunith Wellalage both got two batters out. Towhid Hridoy scored 51 but got no support from anyone else.

The two teams will now play a three-match T20I series starting July 10.
