Bangladesh beat Sri Lanka by 16 runs at the R. Premadasa Stadium to level their ODI series at 1-1.
Parvez Hossain Emon (67) and Tanvir Islam (5-39) helped get Bangladesh over the line despite a late fightback from Sri Lanka.
Emon got the visitors off to a good start before being bowled out by Wanindu Hasaranga (3-60), but Towhid Hridoy (51) kept Bangladesh's momentum going.
Asitha Fernando (4-35) then ripped through the middle order before Tanzim Hasan (33 not out) scored some important boundaries late on to set a total of 248.
Pathum Nissanka (six) fell early on again, but Kusal Mendis scored 56 off 31 balls, including nine fours and one boundary, to get Sri Lanka back on track.
After the loss of cheap wickets, most courtesy of Tanzim, Sri Lanka saw themselves 170-8 with 12 overs to go. Janith Liyanage (78 off 85) had the crowd on edge as he brought the hosts within touching distance of a win, but he fell to Mustafizur Rahman (1-56) in the 48th over.
Bangladesh wrapped up the victory when Tanzim sent stumps flying to remove Dushmantha Chameera (13), leaving Sri Lanka just short on 232.
Data Debrief: Bangladesh's losing streak snapped
Bangladesh had been on a seven-match losing streak in ODIs, with their previous win coming way back in November 2024, against Afghanistan in Sharjah.
It looked like they were heading for their eighth loss in a row when Mendis scored a 20-ball fifty, the fastest ever for men's ODIs at the stadium, and the fourth fastest ever by a Sri Lanka batter.
But a maiden five-wicket haul for Tanvir in just his second ODI match secured a much-needed victory for Bangladesh.
