Laura Wolvaardt's South Africa women defeated Pakistan in the opening match of a full fledged white-ball series which started today with the 1st of a 3-match T20I series at the Senwes Sport Park in Potchefstroom. The hosts clinched victory by 5 wickets.

South African players like skipper Wolvaardt herself, all-rounders Nadine de Klerk and Marizanne Kapp arrived warmed-up up from the Women's Premier League over the last month and showcased their form right away.

Pakistan batted first after winning the toss and posted a decent total of 180 on the board, largely due to skipper Fatima Sana's sensational 41-ball 90-run knock which was also complimented by Natalia Pervaiz (20 off 17) and Muneeba Ali (16 off 16).

Debutant Kayla Reyneke was the standout bowler to pick 2 wickets for just 13 runs off only 4 overs. In response, the Proteas chased took all 20 overs to win this game and required knocks from Laura Wolvaardt (61 off 38) and Reyneke (26 off 16) after a no show from the top-order.
