The 21st match of the ICC CWC Challenge League A, 2024-26 saw Papua new Guinea face Kuwait at the Farmers Cricket Club Ground in St Martin, on Sunday. Kuwait, displayed a tremendous all-round performance and managed to register a convincing 4-wicket win over PNG.

Batting first, PNG had a decent start with a 53-run stand for the first wicket between Sese Bau and Hila Vare. Bau played brilliant knock of 63 runs and Bau was key player behind that decent start. However, the middle order collapsed horribly and the innings wrapped up at just 148 runs. Thanks to the brilliant bowling display from Yasin Patel, Mohammed Aslam and Shiraz Khan who picked up three wickets each.

Chasing the target, Kuwait didn't have a great, losing their three wickets on just 29 runs. But it was skipper Aslam who kept the one end safe and stitched a match-winning 52-run partnership with Shiraz Khan. With this win, Kuwait are now positioned at the second place in the points table.

At the toss, Kuwait skipper Mohammed Aslam called it right and opted to bowl first, putting Papua New Guinea into bat. Given the conditions, this decision helped them set the tone early on, especially with Kuwait’s strong bowling attack. On the other hand, PNG relied on their experienced campaigners to post a challenging total.
