Amelia Kerr-led New Zealand thrashed South Africa women by 80 runs in the first T20I on Sunday, March 15, 2026 at the Bay Oval, Tauranga. With this smashing win, the hosts are now leading the five-match ser
New Zealand lost the wicket of Issy Gaze early, who got run-out for a duck, without even facing a ball. However, after that, skipper Kerr and Georgia Plimmer took charge and forged a staggering 146-run partnership for the 2nd wicket.
While Kerr (78) slammed her fourth consecutive fifty, Plimmer also complemented well with a well-crafted 63 to take the Black Caps to 190/7 in 20 overs.
In response, South Africa were able to get to only 110/7 in 20 overs on the back of a sensational bowling effort by veteran Sophie Devine, who shone with career-best figures of 4-12.
The Proteas never got the desired momentum to chase a big total as they lost both openers - Sune Luus and Laura Wolvaardt in the powerplay itself. Their middle order also collapsed, managing only 57 runs against 5 wickets, which shattered any slim hopes of chasing down the target.
