Ireland maul Oman by 96 runs in match 22 of the T20 World Cup 2026 at the R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on February 14, 2026. With this win, they got the first two points of the World Cup, and that too in an emphatic style.
Ireland, who entered the match without the services of their captain, Paul Stirling, were invited to bat first on a fresh wicket by Oman. Although they lost their opener, Tim Tector, in the very first over and were three down within the powerplay, it didn't stop them from taking the aggressive route.
Stand-in skipper Lorcan Tucker (94 not out) and Gareth Delay (56) took the charge and stitched a brisk 101-run stand for the fifth wicket. George Dockrell also chipped in 9-ball 35 towards the end to take Ireland to 235/6 in 20 overs. This is the highest score of the tournament so far.
Tucker smashed 10 fours and four sixes during the course of his innings; however, he could not get to his hundred, and Dockrell went berserk from the other end.
In response, Oman also got off to a blazing start and were 64/2 in the powerplay. However, they kept losing wickets at regular intervals and eventually got skittled for 139 in 18 overs, thus losing the match by 96 runs.
44-year-old Aamir Kaleem turned out to be the highest scorer for Oman, scoring a blistering 50 off 29 balls. He also became the oldest player to score a half-century in the T20 World Cups.
Oman have won the toss and elected to field first in Colombo.
