In one of the most gripping Test matches in recent memory, England edged past India by 22 runs at Lord’s to lead the five-match Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series 2-1. Defending a modest target of 193 on a tense final day, the hosts bowled India out for 170 in the final session of Day 5, sealing their 60th Test win at the historic venue.

India's chase began poorly on Day 4 as they stumbled to 58/4 by stumps. The collapse continued into the final morning, with England reducing the visitors to 112/8 before lunch. Ravindra Jadeja stood tall with a defiant 61* (181 balls), stitching crucial lower-order partnerships with Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, but the pressure eventually told.

Final Blow By Shoaib Bashir

Shoaib Bashir, battling a broken finger, bowled the final delivery of the match — a spinning ball that Mohammed Siraj padded away softly, only to see it roll back onto his stumps. Siraj slumped over his bat in disbelief, bringing an end to a game of immense drama and heart.

Earlier, England’s first-innings total of 387 was built around Joe Root’s masterclass — a resilient 104 — his 37th Test century and 11th against India. Contributions from Jamie Smith (51) and Brydon Carse (56) proved vital. Jasprit Bumrah’s 5/74 helped limit the damage, as he surpassed Kapil Dev’s tally for most away Test fifers by an Indian (13).

India's Sudden Collapse

India responded with an identical 387, thanks to KL Rahul (100), Rishabh Pant (74), and Jadeja (72). Rahul and Pant’s 141-run partnership marked their third 100+ stand in England — the most by any Indian pair. Rahul also became the first Asian opener with two centuries at Lord’s.

England’s second innings collapsed for 192, with Washington Sundar starring with 4/22 — the best figures by an Indian off-spinner at Lord’s since Bishan Bedi in 1974. Bumrah also dismissed Root for the 11th time in Tests, equaling Pat Cummins for most dismissals of the English star.

India's chase wavered early as Archer, Stokes, and Carse struck crucial blows. Despite Jadeja’s resistance and Bumrah’s dogged 54-ball stay, England’s discipline proved decisive. Stokes, who finished with 50 Test wickets against India, was instrumental again — both as captain and workhorse.

Milestone Alert

The win also saw Joe Root reach multiple milestones — including 3,000 runs vs India and 8,000 runs at No. 4. Meanwhile, Shubman Gill became India’s highest run-scorer in a Test series in England, surpassing Rahul Dravid’s 602 in 2002.
