The India U19 team will enter the red-ball series high on confidence after dominating the recently concluded five-match Youth ODI series against England. The young Indian side clinched the series 4-1, doing great in the both batting and bowling departments.
Much of that success was built around the incredible form of 14-year-old sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The Rajasthan Royals batter ended the ODI series as the top scorer, racking up 355 runs at an average of 71.00 and a strike rate of 174.01. His record-breaking 143 off 78 balls in the fourth ODI made him the youngest centurion in U19 ODIs and also the fastest to a hundred in the format’s history.
India kicked off the 50-over series with a comfortable six-wicket win at the County Ground in Hove. However, they faced a narrow setback in the second match, losing by just one wicket at the County Ground in Northampton.
The Men in Blue bounced back strongly, clinching the next two encounters by margins of four wickets and 55 runs, respectively, to take an unassailable 3-1 lead and seal the series. England managed to salvage some pride by winning the final match, ending the five-game series 3-2 in India’s favour.
Vaibhav's scores across the five Youth ODIs read: 48, 45, 86, 143 and 33. His 29 sixes in the series were more than the combined total of the next six highest scorers. With such form under his belt, all eyes will be on the left-hander.
