The uncertainty over Asia Cup 2025 continues with a new report stating that India could boycott the tournament if the venue of upcoming Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Annual General Meeting is not changed from the Bangladesh capital of Dhaka. Any resolution during this meeting will reportedly be not accepted by India.

“Asia Cup can happen only if the meeting venue changes from Dhaka,” a source privy to the developments told ANI.

“ACC chairman Mohsin Naqvi is trying to assert unnecessary pressure on India for the meeting. We requested him to change the venue, but have received no response. BCCI will boycott any resolution if Mohsin Naqvi goes ahead with the meeting in Dhaka.”
Naqvi not only leads ACC but is also the head of the Pakistan Cricket Board and acts as the interior minister of the country. The multiple roles played by Naqvi have further complicated the scenario.
Asia Cup 2025 was scheduled to take place in T20 format in September with India being the hosts. However, the recent rise in tensions between India and Pakistan means that the tournament remains in limbo for now.
Reports emerged that India had already pulled out of Asia Cup but BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia dismissed those reports as “speculative and imaginary”. He had then said that no such communication had taken place with the ACC.
Even before the current tensions, the venue of the the competition was not fixed as Pakistan demanded a Hybrid model where they would play their matches outside India. Reports were coming that the entire tournament could be shifted to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
