We’re underway and straight into the action. Sanjana Kavindi and Hansima Karunaratne walk out to the middle, the openers setting up with calm intent. Kavindi takes strike, eyes locked in, ready to get things moving.
From the other end, Saima Thakor has the new ball in hand and is set to open the attack. Game on.
Breakthrough, and it’s a sharp one! Tanuja Kanwar strikes straight away. Hansima Karunaratne looks to press on but ends up feathering one into the cordon.
Mamatha Madiwala is alert, safe hands, and the catch is taken cleanly. Karunaratne’s brisk stay comes to an end, 14 off just 9 balls, three boundaries in there, but she’s gone. A big early wicket, and the fielding side have their first roar.
SL-W 36/1 (4.1)
Another one goes, and the pressure keeps building. Prema Rawat gets the breakthrough this time, drawing Sandeepani into a shot that doesn’t quite come off. The timing’s off, the ball goes up, and Saima Thakor makes no mistake under it.
A steady hand departs, 15 off 15 with a couple of boundaries, but she’s picked out the fielder. Wickets tumbling now, and the momentum is firmly shifting.
Saima Thakor goes full and Sachini Nisansala leans into it with confidence, opening the face just enough. The ball screams past the infield and races away to deep extra cover. That’s timed to perfection, and the boundary brings a much-needed release late in the innings.
Sri Lanka Women finish their innings at 118 all out in 19.4 overs, a spirited effort with glimpses of aggression from Karunaratne and Sandeepani, but regular wickets kept them from building momentum.
Some crisp boundaries came their way, yet tight bowling and sharp fielding from the opposition ensured they couldn’t accelerate, leaving them just short of a big total.
Chase time! Nandini Kashyap and Vrinda Dinesh take guard, ready to chase down the target. Kashyap gets the strike first, eyes sharp and focused, while Vrinda waits at the non-striker’s end, calm and collected.
From the other end, Sandeepani is ready with the ball, looking to set the tone early. The run chase begins now, all eyes on the openers.
Early jolt for India Women! Yasanthi Nimanthika strikes right from the start, and Nandini Kashyap’s stay is cut short. A good length delivery sneaks through, and the bails fly, Kashyap is bowled for 13 off 16, three crisp boundaries in her innings. Early pressure on the chase, and India Women have a tricky start to navigate.
Quick wicket again! Shashini Gimhani makes the breakthrough, tempting Tejal Hasabnis into a shot she can’t control. The ball goes straight to Sandeepani, who holds on safely. Hasabnis departs for a quick 3 off 6, and India Women are wobbling early in their chase.
Minnu Mani is run out for just 2, trapped short after a sharp fielding effort. Shashini Gimhani hits the stumps, Anushka Sanjeewani dives in to complete the throw, lightning-fast work. India Women are reeling now, just two wickets down and the pressure mounting.
India A stormed into the final with a commanding performance against Sri Lanka A. Tight bowling kept the opposition under pressure, and Radha Yadav’s all-round heroics, 4/19 in 3.4 overs and an unbeaten 31 off 18 balls, anchored the chase, earning her Player of the Match and securing a convincing five-wicket win for a spot in the summit clash.
