Match: England Vs South Africa Semifinal 2
Tournament: ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026
Venue: Kennington Oval, London
Date & Time: Thursday, July 2
South Africa women have won the toss and elected to bowl first.
England Women (Playing XI): Amy Jones(w), Danni Wyatt-Hodge, Nat Sciver-Brunt(c), Alice Capsey, Heather Knight, Freya Kemp, Danielle Gibson, Charlotte Dean, Sophie Ecclestone, Linsey Smith, Lauren Bell
South Africa Women (Playing XI): Laura Wolvaardt(c), Tazmin Brits, Annerie Dercksen, Sune Luus, Marizanne Kapp, Nadine de Klerk, Chloe Tryon, Sinalo Jafta(w), Shabnim Ismail, Ayabonga Khaka, Nonkululeko Mlaba
We’re underway in the semi-final! Marizanne Kapp starts with the new ball, but Amy Jones wastes no time, full delivery, just a hint of shape, and Danny Wyatt-Hodge leans into a gorgeous drive through extra cover for four. Pure timing, pure class.
Short, Wide and gone!
Ismail it is again. Jones go for 2!
Doesn't make good contact and hits it straight to Dercksen at cover-point.
ENG-W 3-1 (1.1)
This time it's the leading scorer of the T20 World Cup who has to depart at the Oval!
Huge Blow for England!
Wyatt-Hodge gets beaten on the inside edge and then finds her stumps rattled.
Kapp is just loving this sight..
ENG-W 20-2 (2.4)
Plumb in front! Celebrappeal from Ismail again, and no need to look back at the umpire for the nod.
This time it's Alice Capsey gone for 1.
ENG-W 23-3 (3.3)
England lost three of their openers by the first three overs itself.
Now that the powerplay has ended, they would look forward to build some partnership and put some good score on the board as well.
ENG-W 42-3 (7)
England looked helpless till the powerplay but Knight and Blunt had their own plans.
They are building the momentum for the team and the English haven't lost a single wicket after the third over.
Whipped away through midwicket and she finds the gap between deep midwicket and long-on. That brings up a fifty for England's returning skipper. NSB equals Beth Mooney and Suzie Bates for fifties at T20 World Cups with her eighth in the tournament's history!
Finally the breakthrough for South Africa, and that's the end of a special, special innings! Tossed up full and Sciver-Brunt has to fetch it from outside off. Drags it to deep midwicket, with not enough distance on that, and Brits takes it reverse-cupped at chest-height. Sciver-Brunt has marked her return from injury with an unbelievably important innings!
Double-blow! Tossed up full just outside off, Knight gets a leading edge as she looks to swing it away and it's an easy catch at short cover. Good half-century from her as well, but does this wicket mean England will be denied a power-packed finish?
That goes away for four byes and England have set South Africa a daunting 170 to reach the T20 World Cup final! This is full and wide and Gibson shapes to steer it but leaves it alone, and it beats the keeper too. Smart play, perhaps? A good final over from Khaka though, but is it enough to make up for the waywardness from the bowlers through the middle period between the last two overs and the powerplay?
We're back for the second innings. Linsey Smith is bowling the first over , so, expect some early breakthroughs already.
Wolvaardt and Brits are at the crease. Wolvaardt is on strike.
The Oval roars as Ecclestone leaps to pull off an overhead catch. Sharp, sharp catch that.
She had to time her jump and time she did. Length ball around middle again, Wolvaardt skips down to go over mid-on once more. Found one of the taller England fielders on the ring.
Just the breakthrough England needed with South Africa starting to change pace
Lauren Bell gets Luus with the short ball! Cramps her for room as Luus jabs at it.
Goes off the top edge and Ecclestone is running back to her left as the ball is looping over her head, and watchfully holds on.
Two good catches today for Ecclestone. Four wickets gone for South Africa
SA-W 83/3 (13)
Almost an action replay of the Kapp wicket, but Dean has removed the set Brits. Fired in quicker and full around middle and off.
Brits was looking to whip it leg side and gets a leading edge to extra cover. Sciver-Brunt does the needful.
South Africa sinking in this semi-final
Tazmin Brits c Nat Sciver-Brunt b Dean 51 (45b 6x4 0x6) SR: 113.33
Crashes into the stumps and Ecclestone has a wicket to cap off a fine performance!
Tryon skips out and has a wild swing across the line. Misses the length ball altogether as it slides onto leg stump
SA-W 119/7 (18.3)
Oh, it's England's day alright! Direct hit from backward point and Danni Wyatt-Hodge is pumping her fist.
Slower ball outside off again, pushed to backward point and Jafta wants the single. De Klerk sends her back and Wyatt-Hodge is on the money with her throw at the striker's end.
She had two stumps to aim at, and hit the bullseye
Oh, beautifully done by Bell! A dipping slower yorker at 82kph cleans Khaka up!
Follows up the bouncer with a back-of-hand slower ball and Khaka is all at sea there
Ismail gets a single through backward square but that matters little as England make it to their fifth T20 World Cup final, booking a bout for the title with Australia at Lord's on Sunday!
That's A Wrap! See you'll soon for another live blog. Until then Bye-bye!
