Ahead of the marquee BWF World Tour Finals 2023 badminton event, here's all you need to know regarding the live-streaming, Indian participation and prize money details for the event.

Badminton has seen some of the top events this year around and it reaches it's climax with the BWF World Tour Finals 2023. The event sees Badminton World Federation (BWF) top eight ranked players or pairs fight it out in the prestigious tournament in Hangzhou, China. (December 11 Blog | More Badminton News)

The tournament sees the winner walk-away with the prize money of $2.5 million and is a amalgamation of a year-long series of tourneys across the globe wherein the badminton players/pairs gather points based on their performances.

In the men's singles, Thai shuttler and Copenhaged Worlds winner Kunlavut Vitidsarn won't be at the marquee event after he finished outside the top eight rankings meaning the top seven would be taking part in Hangzhou.

Nishimoto Kenta had a good chance of replacing Anders Antonsen to seal a spot at the BWF World Tour Finals but the former went down to fellow Japanese shuttler Naraoka Kodai in the China Masters final.

The BWF picks the 10 best results from each player or pair that will determine their qualification for the marquee tournament. As for the Indian badminton is concerned, there will be no players involved at the gala event. None of the Indian badminton stars are ranked in the top half of the BWF Rankings.

No Indian participation

There will no Indian representation at the BWF World Tour Finals. India last missed participation was at the 2010 event when the event was called as BWF Super Series. However, since then, India have had their top badminton starts playing in the likes of PV Sindhu, Saina Nehwal, Kidambi Srikanth.

Two-time Olympic gold medalist PV Sindhu, who is currently rehabilitating from injury, had a poor 2023 season. Eventually, it saw her drop out of the top 10 rankings in April this year.

India's top-ranked men's shuttler HS Prannoy, who is ranked eighth and 12th in the BWF World Tour rankings. The biggest shock was that India's most celebrated badminton doubles pairing of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty failed to meet the entry standards for the premier tournament.
