The Malaysian Open BWF Super 1000 men's doubles quarter-final between Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty and Indonesia’s Fajar Alfian-Muhammad Shohibul Fikri will be live streamed on the JioHotstar app and website in India. It will be telecast on the Star Sports Network TV channels in the country.
Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty started their campaign with a straight games (21-13, 21-15) win over Chinese Taipei’s Yang Po-Hsuan and Lee Jhe-Hue in the round of 32. The Indian third seeds then overcame the local pairing of Junaidi Arif and Roy King Yap 21-18, 21-11 in 39 minutes to enter the quarter-finals.
The preceding seventh match on Court 2 is over, which means it's time for Satwik-Chirag to face Alfian-Fikri. The two sets of players are entering the arena now, and will engage in customary knocking before the match begins.
The match gets underway. Alfian-Fikri start strongly, building an early 3-0 lead in the first game of this crucial quarter-final encounter.
Satwik-Chirag pull things back a bit, clawing their way from 0-5 down to 3-7. They know that squandering the opening game would leave them at a huge psychological disadvantage against the Indonesians.
The Indonesians go into the mid-game interval with an 11-4 lead, pouncing on mid-court shuttles and killing rallies quickly to stay in ascendancy. Satwik-Chirag try to wrest a few points back but Alfian-Fikri hold firm, racing away to a 15-8 lead.
Alfian-Fikri take the opening game by a resounding 10-21 margin. Nothing went right for Satwik-Chirag, and the third seeds are under huge pressure now. They need to up their netplay and attacking, if the Indians are to win the second game and force a decider.
Chirag and Satwik are looking determined to get the better of the early net exchanges in the second game. They neutralize the Indonesians' threat on two occasions to take a 4-2 lead in Game 2.
Alfian-Fikri retaliate after conceding an early lead to the Indians, and make it all square at 9-9 in the second game. They then claim the next point too, but it Satwik-Chirag who head into the mid-game interval with an 11-10 lead.
Satwik-Chirag consolidate their advantage to open up a 17-14 lead in the second game. They need to stay positive and close out the game, for the match to stay alive.
What a see-saw game this is turning out to be! Alfian-Fikri find a late resurgence to cancel Satwik-Chirag's lead and draw level at 20-20 but the Indians manage to stay in contention with a second deuce. Game 2 down to the wire...
It's curtains for Satwik-Chirag. The Indonesians convert their third game point to complete their late comeback, and finish with a 21-10, 23-21 victory in the quarter-finals. The world number three pairing would rue the missed opportunity, having led for majority of the second game.
