The quarter-final clash is unerway between these two young shuttlers. Lanier, the seventh seed, earns a quick point to put Lakshya on the back foot early on. This is gearing up to be a good contest.

Both players have performed well with their serves, but Lanier has been slightly better with his placements. A contentious "out" call was successfully challenged by the Frenchman, but Lakshya shows off his defensive skills with a long shot that stayed just in.

Despite a tightish start to the game, Lanier is almost running away with a huge lead in the early stages. Right before the break, courtesy of some terrific shot placements and quick footwork, the Frenchman has a six-point lead. Crucially, Lakshya also wasted a challenge; he needs to up his game, and very quickly so.

After the first side change, Lanier is now switching up his game, using his wrists more. Lakshya – despite using slower shots and trying to dictate the tempo of the contest – is not getting much luck. The lead is now up to seven points.

Just a bit north of 20 minutes of play in the first game, and it has been all Lanier in the contest so far. The Frenchman has dictated play all over the court with his pace, and he has one foot in the semi-finals. Can Lakshya mount what looks like a very difficult comeback?

Despite Lakshya briefly taking a 3-2 lead in the second game, Lanier has again established dominance, winning two on three on the trot to establish a two-point lead.

Luck is not favouring Lakshya tonight. Despite going toe-to-toe with Lanier, some of his longer defensive shots are falling outside the line, allowing Lanier to build on his lead without breaking a sweat at the moment. At the side change, the Frenchman is ahead by seven points still. It's looking bleak for the Indian shuttler.

Lanier has barely put a foot wrong tonight, but Lakshya - who has no change but to take risks - has done exactly that, upping the pace and winning a couple of points. The Indian shuttler hasn't been able to get height under his shots, which is playing into Lanier's hands. However, it's much better from Lakshya, who has cut down the lead to six.

Four points on the trot for Lakshya, and errors are suddenly creeping in to Lanier's game. The Frenchman is still miles ahead in the contest, but a comeback looks much more hopeful for the Indian. All he needs to do now is keep his nerves under control.

A couple of glitches in the second game aside, Lanier was near perfect tonight, giving his opponent absolutely no chance at all. The Frenchman, just 20 years of age, has a bright future ahead, and he moves on to the Denmark Open 2025 semi-final at the expense of Lakshya Sen.
