Oh, Kodai's off to a flyer! 4-2 up already and Ayush looks a bit rusty to start. Early days though, plenty of time to find his feet here.
Naraoka's absolutely in the zone right now, 19-13 and he's got a stranglehold on this first game. The sixth seed's been relentless with his court placement, constantly pulling Ayush wide with those deceptive cross-court drops, then punishing him with quick smashes down the line.
Ayush's struggling to get into any rhythm defensively; his net work isn't as tight as it needs to be, and he's getting caught out of position too often. Naraoka's mixing up the pace beautifully, one moment he's attacking with crisp flat shots, the next he's dropping it short and making Ayush rush forward.
The footwork battle is being completely dominated by the Japanese player right now. Ayush needs to find a way to break this momentum soon or game one slips away.
That's it, Kodai takes the first game 21-13. Ayush just couldn't find a way through that wall of precision from the sixth seed. Naraoka was too clinical, too consistent, controlled the rallies, dictated the pace, and Ayush never really got into it. Back to the drawing board for the Indian.
Oh, now we're talking! Ayush bounces back brilliantly in game two, 17-21 and he's leveled this up! Total turnaround from that first game. He's found his range, loosened up, and started dictating the rallies. The Indian's looking sharp now, mixing it up nicely, and Kodai couldn't quite match that intensity. Dead even at one-all heading into the decider.
Oh, this one will haunt Ayush! Kodai takes game three 21-4 and that's a brutal third game. The sixth seed absolutely dismantles the Indian in the decider after that thrilling second game battle. Naraoka closes it out in devastating fashion, 21-13, 17-21, 21-4. What a turnaround from Kodai in that final game.
Kodai Naraoka (6) beat Ayush Shetty 21-13, 17-21, 21-4 in the Round of 32 at the BWF Thailand Open 2026 in Bangkok. India fought back in the second game, but Naraoka dominated the decider to seal a strong win. That’s a wrap here, until then, bye bye.
