Gratitude
Gratitude
Suffolk Russel Page: As I sat in Addenbrooke’s hospital yesterday, receiving chemotherapy, I saw your picture of the Homerton surgical team proudly showing that they were immigrants. When I looked around my own ward, it was clear that virtually all the medical staff were of immigrant origin. I could not have been more grateful for their care and attention. If only Nigel Farage could have seen it.

A box of emotions
Quebec Elizabeth Quance: Memorising poetry is an art of the heart truly describes Nadezhda Mandelstam, who memorised all the poetry of her husband, Osip, whose work was destroyed when he was sent to die in the Gulag during Stalin’s Reign of Terror. The treasures of poetry, music and drama lost to the world in that time of intimidation, torture and killing will never be known, but Osip Mandelstam’s poems survived as memory in the head of his wife.

The Clinton burden
New Jersey Roy Weber: Once again, Democrats are placed in the untenable position of having to support a Clinton, in this case Hillary, despite her having acted in an inexcusable manner. Just as with the Monica Lewinsky scandal, we will line up in support, because what else can a Democrat do? If the unfortunate choice remains Clinton or Trump, she is the only choice. I, for one, am tired after 24 years of defending the Clintons.
