The recent gangrape of a Mumbai photojournalist has brought the role of women in the media, and their work environment, under an uneasy spotlight. Outlook asked an eclectic bunch of women journalists to write on what it means to report fearlessly on sensitive and contentious issues, right from war zones to far-flung rural areas and dangerous urban spaces. Consensus: more freedom is the answer, not less.
