But why business and why garments? "I knew that I wouldn’t be able to do a 9-to-5 job. I have never done that because, even in SAIL, I was constantly playing and travelling. And the garments export business is quite good. It’s extremely competitive and cut-throat and, therefore, it’s a huge challenge. It’s like being on the cricket field all over again. I enjoy it," explains Gautham. And what happens to cricket? "I am a qualified coach and it would have been natural for me to take up that career. But then I figured out that age was on my side and I could coach anytime in the future. There’s no age limit for coaches and that door is still open for me." Until he becomes a coach, Gautham plays in the Chennai league games for Madras Cricket Club.
