Good continental breakfast places are hard to come by in Bangalore. So pardon us if we focus on the most important meal of the day at Red Fork, thereby doing injustice to their lunch and dinner fare. Spanking clean and spartan in set-up, the restaurant sets the mood for brekkie with cheery furniture. If that doesn’t wake up sleepyheads, the blackboard menu will. The Big Breakfast (VFM at Rs 250) includes a choice of eggs, bacon/chicken franks, rosemary mushrooms and roasted tomatoes, plus toast. Smaller stomachs can go for the Breaky (egg-and-bacon) Roll (Rs 200). But our faves are the egg dishes and the sweet treats (Rs 170). The waffles and pancakes have their fans, but the sinful French toast will trigger a sugar rush even in the Sunday morning slothful: Slabs of white bread coated in egg, milk and ground cinnamon and fried and then served with faux maple syrup, half a tinned pear and a dollop of cream. Help yourself to a piece of a friend’s Spanish omelette (Rs 120) or the Parsi eggs (Rs 125 for the akuri or pora to Rs 250 for the keema par eeda) to recover from the sugar onslaught. If it’s the weekend and it’s available, go for the Eggs Benedict (Rs 250), one of the best in town: the eggs are set firm enough for the icky-minded and the freshly made hollandaise, while a smidgeon too thick, is rich and moreish. With a Red Fork breakfast (on every day between 9 am and 3 pm) under your belt, the next meal you need to worry about is dinner.
