es, the name sounds pretentious. But apparently it’s just a reference to the British Raj legend that when travelling by ship to the colonies, wealthy passengers specified that their cabins should be "Port Outbound, Starboard Homebound", because that was the cooler side of the ship, away from the sun. Which is their way of saying that the restaurant serves cuisines from the erstwhile European colonies, from Malaysia to South Africa. (The legend itself isn’t true, but never mind.)

Posh is one of Goa’s newest restaurants, set in a 150-year-old Goan house and garden with three dozen coconut trees. It’s been started by Leo D’Souza, who also runs the popular After Seven. And while it may be new, it’s been running trials for the past year, serving only brunches to get its product right—which tells you a lot about the place. We started with a lip-tingling prawn peri-peri and curried mushrooms, and went on to beef rendang, cooked in coconut milk, and exotic Kahlua-flavoured shrimps with pasta. We ended with a superb creme brulee, covered with a crackling layer of burnt sugar. Posh continues to do a good brunch. Don’t miss their Eggs Benedict.
