Vision Statement

It’s finally redemption for Abdul Latheef Naushad, 32, whose right eye was to be gouged out under a Saudi court order for partially blinding a local youth in a fight in ’03. His wife Suhaila and daughter Ashna, 3, had gone to New Delhi to meet and plead with King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz. But even before she reached, word came from the Indian ambassador to Saudi Arabia, M.O.H. Farook, that the youth had pardoned his assailant and that the Saudi administration had suspended the order. "This eye-for-an-eye business is torture masquerading as justice," Joe Stork of Human Rights Watch said about the legal system there. Naushad, a petrol pump attendant, had fought with the youth over payment.
