'Doing Well', Tweets Nitin Gadkari After Fainting On Stage At Maharashtra Event

Doctors said his gruelling daily schedules may have taken a toll on his health which resulted in his collapse.

Union Minister for Shipping Nitin Gadkari fainted and collapsed during an event in Maharashtra's Ahmednagar on Friday. His condition was later reported to be stable.

The incident occurred when he was standing with other dignitaries for the National Anthem at the convocation function of the Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth (MPKV) Agricultural University.

Gadkari started feeling uneasy, lost his balance and collapsed on the dais. Maharashtra Governor C Vidyasagar Rao, who was also on the stage, caught hold of Gadkari before he could fall down.

He was examined by a team of medicos and his condition was described as "stable" by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) colleagues.

"Had slight medical condition due to low sugar. I have been attended by doctors and i am doing well now. I thank all of you for all the well wishes," he tweeted later.

Gadkari holds a number of key portfolios in the NDA government. He has been Road transport minister since the beginning and is also now the minister in charge of River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation.
