The Southern Strain

The arrest of key LeT operative Abdul Rehman alias Umez-ur-Rehman in connection with the IISC, Bangalore, attack has the Andhra Pradesh police falling back on the theory that Telangana could be a breeding ground for terror. Rehman, from Miryalguda in Nalgonda district, was a taxi driver in Saudi Arabia for 13 years and had returned for Ramzan. What has the AP police foxed is that he has no criminal history here. Officials admit the terror network has spread to towns like Nalgonda, Vijayawada, Zaheerabad and Medak. Security experts claim that terrorists trained in the Gulf by ISI-backed LeT operatives are returning to the southern states. They now warn of more attacks in the region.
