The suspected militant attack in Kulhan, Doda district, on May 1 morning that left 32 villagers dead and nine injured seems directed at derailing the ongoing Indo-Pak peace process. Crucially, it came a few days after the peaceful assembly bypolls. Also, PM Manmohan Singh is to hold a round-table with Kashmiri leaders before a proposed visit to Pakistan next month. The police suspect the Pakistan-based LeT’s hand in the attack. The strike comes after a relative lull in terrorist activity and has already prompted the Centre into asking the state to review security measures.
