Senor With The Lira

Investors have never taken to god’s own country, but of late things have been looking up. One plus is ‘Fashion City’, to be set up by the Liberty group of Italy. Recently, Liberty chairman Aldo Bordijnon and three others toured Kochi, looking for an ideal location. They have promised to invest US $3 million in the first phase, besides bringing aboard 20 apparel-makers of international repute. The fashion city will be a collaborative venture of Liberty and two state industrial bodies, comprising 30 garment units, a sales outlet and a luxury hotel. A textile mill will also be set up. The project hopes to generate employment for around 25,000 people. Union textiles minister S.S. Vaghela has now promised to include the project in the apparel export promotion scheme.
